Missing Teeth? Dentures And Implants Restore Smiles

Missing Teeth In Fresno? Dentures And Implants Restore Smiles

If you have had years of dental problems or are embarrassed by your teeth, our team at Mirelez Wellness Dental can help you find the restoration procedure right for you. You could be a candidate for complete or partial dentures or dental implants.

A removable replacement for missing teeth, dentures can be made in advance and positioned as soon as your existing teeth are removed. Our lab creates dentures that look just like natural teeth: attractive and healthy.

If you still have some healthy, natural teeth, you can benefit from dentures without having your healthy teeth extracted.

Partial dentures fill in the gaps, replacing missing teeth to complete a smile. Partial dentures can prevent natural teeth from moving. Many dental insurance providers cover most or all of the cost of dentures. We can help you find out if your California dental insurance covers dentures.

Another alternative for those with missing teeth is a dental implant procedure. A dental implant is a permanent tooth restoration that is anchored into the jawbone, replacing both the root and crown of the tooth. Dental implants have many advantages, such as preventing jaw bone recession which can occur when natural teeth are removed. However, not all dentistry patients are good candidates for implants.

Dental implants can also be used to anchor a removable denture. The denture is ‘snapped on’ or attached to the implants for no-slip confidence. The combination denture/implant smile restoration solution is usually more affordable than dental implant replacements for several natural teeth.

Replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health, improving your ability to eat and speak. If you are embarrassed to smile or laugh, it’s time to bring back your beautiful smile!

Does My Dentist Treat Bad Breath?

Cure Bad Breath In Medera When my Medera dental patients ask me if mouthwash cures bad breath, I tell them that treating bad breath with a mouthwash is like drenching yourself with cologne instead of taking a shower. Mouthwash is only a temporary mask for odor caused by poor oral hygiene, tongue bacteria, or digestive problems.

The best-selling mouthwashes in Medera have a significant amount of alcohol, which can even exacerbate bad breath by drying out the mouth. Some bacteria grows even faster in a dry environment.

To eliminate bad breath, you need to find the cause. To get rid of hidden bacteria multiplying between teeth, pay more attention to thorough flossing and brushing.

A haphazard thirty-second brushing won’t prevent halitosis (or cavities). Try to brush for at least three minutes. It may seem like overkill if you have been a speed-brusher but remember that there is a lot of area to cover on multiple planes.

Devise a system to brush every reachable surface of every tooth. Then floss carefully around every tooth, pulling the floss down into the space at the gumline on both sides. Brush your gums, sides of mouth, palate, and tongue, also.

Schedule a deep dental cleaning at Mirelez Wellness Dental with the best hygienist in the Medera area and request a refresher (no pun intended) course on brushing and flossing.

If your tongue is the culprit, you might want to start using a tongue scraper. Tongue scraping has become quite popular in Medera, especially among the college crowd.

A tongue scraper is a cleaning tool that works like a squeegee to scrape bacteria and food particles off the surface of the tongue.

I am Dentist Art Mirelez of Mirelez Wellness Dental. At Mirelez Wellness Dental, we treat many Medera dental patients with bad breath. There is no reason to feel embarrassed. (Leaving bad breath untreated can be more embarrassing.)

Schedule an oral exam and halitosis consultation by calling 559-761-1871. At Mirelez Wellness Dental, our specialty is holistic dentistry and we also provide cosmetic. Thanks for visiting our blog.

Infancy Through Childhood: Instill Good Brushing Habits

infant dental exam Fresno

New Fresno parents may be surprised by the American Dental Association’s recommendations on infant oral care. Parents are advised to begin brushing their baby’s teeth as soon as the first teeth emerge. After all, brand-new teeth are just as vulnerable to dental caries as older teeth.

Parents are encourage to use a cloth and a smidgen of toothpaste (about the size of a grain of rice) to wipe each tooth. As more teeth come in, it becomes more critical for the teeth to be brushed after each meal or, at least, twice a day.

It is critical to select the proper toothbrush, in order to make brushing time as pleasant as possible. A soft bristled brush is best with a small amount of toothpaste. Infant and toddler-sized toothbrushes with a small head of bristles are helpful. Also, there are circle and triangular-shaped brushes that allow your toddler to walk around with their brush with less chance of injury in case of a fall.

If the toothpaste is causing an unpleasant struggle, brush without toothpaste. The goal is to remove food parts that will create bacteria followed by plaque and then cavities.

When two teeth touch, it’s time to floss. Flossing is critical to make sure no food is lodged between the teeth. Proper flossing requires fine motor skills which most youth don’t develop before age six or seven. Parents need to assist with flossing until they are sure their child can do it effectively.

Until the child is old enough to properly brush his or her teeth, they should receive adult supervision and guidance. Instilling the proper brushing and flossing methods will reap lifelong benefits. While it may seem that supervising them is time consuming, remember that it’s making a daily habit that will guard their health. Also, dental expenses related to poor oral hygiene will be avoided.

Your child’s first dental visit should be within six months of the first tooth appearing and no later than their first birthday. It may seem early, but just as your Fresno pediatrician sees your baby regularly to make sure their physical health is on track and counsel you about your vital role, you can count on your dentist to look out for potential troubles and guide you about how to help your child keep a healthy smile.

Seek your dentist’s counsel regarding pacifiers and sippy cups, nighttime bottles, and x-ray safety. Dentist can guide parents with older children about sealants, tooth protection for athletics, and orthodontics.

If you live in the Clovis area and don’t yet have a trusted family dentist, call Mirelez Wellness Dental at 559-761-1871 to schedule your child’s dental appointment. By starting young, your child will become familiar with our Fresno dental practice and our friendly staff, ensuring that he or she never develops a fear of the dentist.

Debunking Dental Myths

Oakhurst cosmetic dental and tooth implants

Today’s Mirelez Wellness Dental blog post focuses on three dental-related myths prevalent in the Clovis area.

All Sugar Is Equally Bad For Teeth
We all know that sugar increases our risk of tooth decay, but some types are worse than others. Sugar-based foods that sit on the teeth are more dangerous than those that are swallowed immediately. For example, sipping a soda or sucking on a mint can be worse than eating a candy bar all at once.

You Don’t Need To Worry About Baby Teeth Because They Will Fall Out Anyway
Healthy primary teeth serve several important purposes. They allow the child to eat and speak properly. They retain proper spacing of teeth. A healthy smile instills confidence and self-esteem. Healthy baby teeth eliminate the pain of decay which disrupts normal daily activity.

Pulling A Tooth Is Just As Good As A Root Canal
We will let the American Associate of Endodontists explain this one:
Saving your natural teeth, if possible, is the very best option. Nothing can completely replace your natural tooth. An artificial tooth can sometimes cause you to avoid certain foods. Keeping your own teeth is important so that you can continue to enjoy the wide variety of foods necessary to maintain the proper nutrient balance in your diet. Endodontic treatment, along with appropriate restoration, is a cost-effective way to treat teeth with damaged pulp and is usually less expensive than extraction and placement of a bridge or an implant. Endodontic treatment also has a very high success rate. Many root canal-treated teeth last a lifetime.1

At Mirelez Wellness Dental, we provide accurate answers to all of your dental questions.

If you are interested in cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening or sedation dentistry, call us today to schedule an appointment.

What Can Veneers Do For Clovis Smiles?

porcelain veneers cost Clovis

Hello, and welcome to our Mirelez Wellness Dental cosmetic dentistry blog. Today we are taking the time to answer a common question that many dental patients have. The question is, “What exactly are veneers and how are they used in cosmetic dentistry?”

Veneers are thin shells made from durable, translucent porcelain or composite resin. They are custom-made for each patient and are used to improve the appearance of teeth. Unlike a dental crown which covers the entire visible portion of a tooth, a veneer covers just the front part of the tooth. They are ordinarily used to correct teeth that have been chipped, stained, decayed, or that are slightly crooked.

If you visit your dentist for veneers, he or she will first make a model of your teeth. Next, a dental technician will use the model to create the veneers, so you can be sure of a custom fit.

Since a small portion of the enamel on the tooth has to be removed so the veneer can be placed, this process is usually irreversible.

I hope that this blog entry has helped you to understand a little more about veneers and how they can help you to improve your smile. Mirelez Wellness Dental offers all the services you need to create your very best smile. Ask us about gum contouring, smile transformations, teeth whitening, dental implants, and invisible braces.

If you are looking for a dentist with the ability to create beautiful porcelain veneers, give Mirelez Wellness Dental a call. My name is Dr Art Mirelez and I have been practicing dentistry since 2003.

Take Care Of Your Toothbrush!

Clovis Dental Patients Take Care Of Your Toothbrush!

The common household toothbrush. Every Fresno home has at least one, and hopefully all Fresno residents are brushing their teeth after each meal. While cosmetic dentistry and a complete smile makeover seem to be all the rage these days, daily brushing is still the most important thing you can do for your oral health.

It has been said that each toothbrush can contain millions of bacteria. But don’t worry, those bacteria come from our mouths, which harbor equal amounts of bacteria. For a person with a healthy immune system, these bacteria pose no threat.

However, a few common sense tips might keep any unnecessary germs from affecting the toothbrushes of Medera, Selma, and Oakhurst dental patients.

First, be sure to store your toothbrush as far away from the toilet as possible, and close the toilet lid before flushing. Each flush of the toilet releases a spray of bacteria into the air, so it’s best to just eliminate the spray.

Next, since bacteria like a moist environment, store your toothbrush upright and without a travel case so that it can dry completely between uses.

The American Dental Association recommends replacing your toothbrush every three to four months. Brushing and flossing are the key to good oral health, and doing both each day will keep Clovis dental patients’ risk for gun disease, cavities, and bad breath low.

Keep your smile bright by visiting Mirelez Wellness Dental regularly and practicing proper oral hygiene.

Dentist Art Mirelez has been a dentist in the Fresno area since 2003. We can answer any questions you have about cosmetic dentistry procedures such as tooth whitening, porcelain veneers, dental implants, and clear braces.

3 Problems Which May Require A Root Canal

Oakhurst family dentist

Hello California, let’s talk about the root canal procedure (“endodontic therapy” in dentist – speak). The root canal may be the most cringe-worthy dental treatment commonly done today, but it is important that dental patients in the Medera, Selma, and Oakhurst areas know what is happening during this anxiety – inducing, though routine, procedure.

At the center of each tooth is a very small tissue called the pulp. This thread-like tissue can become damaged due to a:

An injury to a tooth
A very deep cavity
A crack in the tooth

If this tissue becomes damaged or infected, it can build up at the root tip inside the jawbone and form an abscess. If left untreated, this can actually destroy the bone around the tooth and cause serious discomfort.

When an endodontist, oral surgeon, or general dentist in Clovis or Fresno performs a root canal, the dead or diseased pulp is taken out, the space that is left is cleaned and then it is shaped and filled. This eliminates the need for a diseased tooth to be pulled and continued cosmetic dentistry to fill in the gap.

Hi. I’m Dentist Art Mirelez of Mirelez Wellness Dental in Fresno. I hope that today’s Clovis dental blog post has helped you to better understand root canals. I want my patients to have the best oral health possible and accurate dental information. I also want them to look their best, so if you have any questions about a smile makeover, dental implants, or teeth whitening, please give us a call at 559-761-1871.

Dental Bridge vs Dental Implant

Fresno DentalHello Fresno visitors, welcome to Mirelez Wellness Dental. Let’s talk about a tooth replacement option common in Clovis: dental bridges.

While dental bridges have restored smiles for thousands of Clovis dental patients, they are not problem free. Many CA – California people with dental bridges find it impossible to keep the small areas around the bridge clean. This is not surprising because it is hard to get toothbrush bristles or dental floss under the bridge.

Of course detrimental bacteria has no trouble moving in and taking over without the Fresno dental patient even knowing it. When the decay reaches the roots of the surrounding teeth, it is not only painful, the person is at risk of losing those teeth also.

That is one reason why a dental implant is superior to a dental bridge. Most Clovis people with missing teeth are great candidates for dental implants.

A dental implant looks just like the beautiful tooth restoration on a high-quality dental bridge, but the important part is what you don’t see.

A dental implant is screwed directly into the jaw bone. It is not attached to teeth like the dental bridges traditionally used in Clovis. In a way, a dental implant is a more conservative tooth replacement because it leaves the adjacent teeth intact. The bone and gum tissue mesh permanently with the titanium post that serves as the replacement tooth root.

Dental implants do not have the same decay risk as the teeth that anchor dental bridges. Of course patients with dental implants need to brush and floss, but cleaning a dental implant is usually no more difficult than cleaning a normal tooth.

Dental implants have a far better track record in CA – California than dental bridges. With proper care, a dental implant can last a lifetime for smile-smart Clovis dental patients.

At Mirelez Wellness Dental, dental implants can replace one or more teeth providing durability, beauty, and natural function.  Additionally, they can also serve as anchors for full or partial dentures. No more embarrassing slipping!

If you want more details about dental implants, I invite you to call Mirelez Wellness Dental at 559-761-1871. I am Dentist Art Mirelez. Call today to schedule a dental implant consultation. A remarkable smile can be yours with dental implants.
